Getting up
We woke up at midnight on the second day. We had only about 3 hours from the time we got to the lodge and could not sleep.
Departure from mountain lodge
We left at 0:30. We left at this time due to the large number of people. It was July, but it was very cold outside. Probably around 10 degrees Celsius. Even though I was wearing UNIQLO's super warm HEATTECH and fleece, it was cold.
Hut~Mountain peak
This section was very difficult to climb. I felt it was 1.5~2 times harder than the fifth to eighth station. There were many people and traffic jams along the way. I could only go about 0.7 times faster than my normal walking speed. Because there were so many people, there were few points where we could take a rest. At a mountain hut called "Ganso-muro," I bought a small vajra (300 yen) recommended by the guide. The zodiac sign of the year is branded on it. You can also have it branded at the top of the mountain.
Mountaintop、Ohachimawari
We arrived at the summit at 3:20am. It was very cold and the temperature was only about 5°.
We participated in the Ohachimawari. (Participation fee: 1,000 yen)
Ohachimawari is a course that circles the crater of Mt.Fuji.
The path is narrow (only enough for one or two people to pass through). Also, there are no fences, so it was scary to go down the slope. You will visit the Okumiya shrine of Asama-taisha, the summit post office, and Ginmyo-sui (silver water). Because of the sunrise time, the guide was very fast paced. Because of this, we missed the post office. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to go around more slowly.
The post office is located right next to the Sengen Shrine Okumiya. If you want to send a postcard, be careful not to miss it!
3776mpoint
The last road to this point is a steep gravel slope. It was slippery and difficult to climb. We managed to make it in time for sunrise. The view from here was very nice.
There is a triangular point and a stone monument here.
The point at 3776m is at the back of the photo above. I didn't know where it was at first, but I noticed it because people were lined up.
Incidentally, this is what happened when I took the potato chips with me, depending on the atmospheric pressure.
End of Ohachimawari
After the Ohachimawari, we had a little free time. I went to get a branding iron and a red seal. I also bought a red seal book, which was on sale.
Descending
6:00 we started our descent. At first, a guide went down with us and showed us how to descend, but we broke up halfway and were then free to go down the mountain to catch our bus. Unlike the climb up, the descent was very easy and we soon reached the fifth station. The weather was clear, so we were able to enjoy the scenery on the way down.
5th station
The weather was clear and the view from here was nice.
We descended quickly and had about 1~2 hours of free time.
Fuji lava hot spring Fountainhead
It takes about an hour from the fifth station by bus. There were two baths: an open-air bath, a sauna, a hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath, and a regular bath. About half of them were foreigners.
Finally
Thank you for reading to the end. I will continue to update this page when I feel like it, so please come back to read it.
